Welcome to Neponset Winery

A good friend introduced me to winemaking more than 30 years ago. It all started with a trip to a pick-your-own berry farm.  Those fresh picked currants made a pretty good wine.  While I've tried my hand at making a lot of different types of wine over the years, grapes are my fruit of choice.

Neponset Winery is the "fruition" of a dream to start a small winery. Some people just dream. With the help and encouragement of my wife, my dream is coming true.  Neponset Winery is dedicated to making fine wines in small batches. We purchase juice from top growers in Massachusetts and California and ferment it cold to produce distinctive, fruity wines.

We're conveniently located in the suburban town of Needham, Massachusetts, off Exit 19B,  I-95/Rt. 128, just 3 miles south of the Mass Pike. Our wines are available for sale at the winery and a select group of wine shops in the Boston area.

We hope you'll visit us, enjoy some wine, and share the dream.

Our Wines

Neponset Winery's fourth vintage has produced an exciting selection of fine wines.  Our wines are made in small batches. Our white wines are fermented in cold temperatures to preserve and accentuate the fruitiness of the grapes.  Our reds are vinted to yield full-bodied wines with lots of fruit and muted oak. When possible, we make our wines from locally-grown fruit.  The southeastern coast of Massachusetts is garnering a reputation as an ideal place to grow fine white wine grapes that produce unique New England style wines.  Stop by on the weekends to taste and purchase our wines:

2007 Chardonnay (Southeastern New England)
This wine, once again, demonstrates Southeastern New England's suitability for producing fine Chardonnays. This wine is clean and crisp with apples and stone fruits in the bouquet and green apple, tropical fruits, and a hint of oak in the mouth. Sip this Chardonnay as a refreshing alternative to those buttery and oaky versions. This is a great food wine that you can pair with your favorite chicken and fish dishes, as well as mild cheeses.

2006 Pinot Gris (Suisun Valley, CA) JUST RELEASED!
A great accompaniment for those hot summer evenings! Our Pinot Gris, fermented in stainless steel, is a light fruity version of this classic wine. Pair our Pinot Gris with light summer fair such as salads and seafood.

2006 Rosé of Pinot Noir (Southeastern New England): Made from Massachusetts-grown Pinot Noir pressed at harvest and fermented like our white wines. This wine is a light, low-alcohol summer sipper, perfect for a hot summer day.  Fruity nose with cherries and strawberries on the palate. Serve cold.

Neponset Nectar (Southeastern New England)
This is our winery's first dessert wine. It's made from Massachusetts-grown Vidal Blanc. This delight displays spicy orange aromas on the nose (think Cointreau!), and orange and dried apricots on the palate. Customers say this wine is "Yummy" - "sweet but not cloying". Try Neponset Nectar with sharp cheeses for dessert, fresh berries, and rich chocolate.

2007 Cabernet Sauvignon (Russian River)
Less than 20 cases of this fabulous wine were made. This is a classic Cabernet with flavors of cherry and cassis. along with mild tannins. This is a very approachable and elegant Cab that will improve with aging for the next few years. Pair this wine with red meats and lamb. It wont last long! SOLD OUT

2006 Sauvignon Blanc (Napa Valley): Cold fermented to make a distinctive light and crisp wine, with a big nose of lime and grapefruit up front and lots of tropical fruit on the palate. This award-winning wine has a long finish that won't quit, and just enough acidity to make it a perfect food pairing wine. Our Sauvignon Blanc is the perfect accompaniment for rich pasta dishes and Asian foods. SOLD OUT

COMING SOON...

April Harvest - a fruity field blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, and Carminere, grown in Chile. Available late summer, just in time for BBQs..
